the average birthing parent has just 10% of their eggs remaining.

Although age is not the only factor that impacts your fertility, the quantity and quality of your eggs naturally declines with time. Research suggests that the ideal time to freeze your eggs is before age 35.

Tests your Celery doctor may consider depending on your history and goals

Skip the repeat path lab visits with a tailored-for-you blood panel. Following your consultation, your Celery doctor will select the appropriate tests necessary. They may consider some of the following depending on your personal circumstance and medical background:

AMH *

A hormone that measures your ovarian reserve, indicating how many eggs remain, helping predict your reproductive timeline.

Sex hormones

LH, Estrogen, Prolactin, Progesterone, FSH, DHEA, and Testosterone tests evaluate hormonal balance, which is crucial for ovulation, menstrual regularity and fertility potential while screening for PMOS (PCOS).

Hep B, Hep C

Hepatitis infections could impact pregnancy outcomes and fertility treatment options.

Glucose

Screens for diabetes and insulin resistance, which can disrupt ovulation and increase pregnancy complications.

Thyroid screening

Identifies thyroid imbalances that frequently disrupt menstrual cycles, ovulation, and early pregnancy development.

FBC, iron studies

Assesses blood health and iron levels essential for ovulation, egg quality, and supporting a healthy pregnancy.

STIs

Detects infections that may silently damage reproductive organs and impact fertility if left untreated.

CMV

Screens for cytomegalovirus, which can affect pregnancy outcomes, an important factor when considering fertility treatments.

Vitamin D

Critical for hormone regulation, egg quality, and implantation success; deficiency may impact fertility and pregnancy health.

B12

Essential for healthy ovulation, egg quality, and embryo development; deficiency may contribute to infertility.

Folate

Crucial for reproductive health, preventing birth defects, and supporting early embryo development.

FAQs

Many will tell you the best way to test fertility is to try to conceive! However many of us aren’t in a position to do that right now.

The most common fertility test for women and birthing parents is egg count and AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone) levels. This test doesn’t provide a completely accurate picture especially when it’s taken alone. Celery’s fertility assessments for women and birthing parents take a whole-body approach that includes:

  • A customised blood panel that checks for various hormones, STI’s, vitamin levels and other important markers
  • Pelvic ultrasound imaging to evaluate your ovaries and ovarian reserve
  • Genetic carrier screening for a thorough picture
  • Reproductive history evaluation, including menstrual cycle patterns, previous pregnancies, and medical history
  • Lifestyle assessment that examines factors like nutrition, exercise, stress levels and environmental exposure

This holistic perspective provides us with the 360 degree view we need to develop personalised fertility pathways.

Not necessarily. While some cases will require a complete blood panel, other people may only require a specific set of hormone tests. Your Celery doctor will develop a customised blood panel according to your specific medical history, concerns and goals, ensuring you have all the information you need to make an informed choice.

In preparation, we recommend most blood tests are taken at a specific time early in your cycle. Some are required slightly later at Day 21 of your cycle. Once your Celery Health doctors will have provided you with a blood test referral, you will receive all the information you need to plan for your tests.

Our specialised ultrasound assessment is usually performed between days 5-10 of your cycle when follicle development is optimal and visible.

The transvaginal ultrasound is a quick and safe procedure that provides a closer look at your cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. Most people tolerate the procedure well. Some experience some mild discomfort or pressure.

You don’t need to be planning for conception to take one of our assessments.

Our tests are perfect for anyone who is experiencing reproductive symptoms, or changes, or simply wants to get clarity about their hormones.

Ovary and egg-related reproductive issues are commonly misdiagnosed, and we’re on a mission to make sure everyone gets the clarity and care to live their best life.

Absolutely! We believe that every parent deserves to feel seen and supported on their reproductive journey. Our team supports many same-sex couples to explore options like donor sperm, IUI, and IVF pathways tailored to your family planning goals. Read more about our assisted reproductive pathways here.
